Video: First Book-a-Thon of 2008!

This weekend is the kick-off of the first Basics Book-a-Thon of 2008!   This year, the absolute target is to 100X the volume of books gotten to the people of your community, to massively spearhead the clearing of your zone.  And it starts NOW!

THE NEW YORK STREET BOOKSELLING PATTERN:

videoplay-20

If you’ve wondered, “Can I sell books in volume to new public?” — the answer is, “Yes, you can!”  And it’s easy.  Because all of the particulars of how it is done have been honed to a total simplicity on the streets of New York.  See a video here of the Field Staff Members of New York who are doing it!

You can do it too!

GET MASSIVE BULK DISCOUNTS ON YOUR BOOKS ON-LINE!

image Newly added to the Basics website is a brand-new tool to get bulk discounts on each of the Beginning books.   As you’re going to be getting books out to your area by the hundreds, take advantage of these new discounts on-line – discounts as high as 39% for bulk purchases!

All this to help you reach more people with LRH tech in your area!

WE WANT TO SEE YOU IN ACTION!

The Book-a-Thon website will be updated all weekend with the standings, and with a special place for the orgs that make it into the 1000 club (1000 books into new public hands), and a special award and acknowledgement for orgs that  make it into the 5000 club!

Send all photos and video of you and your org in action to this e-mail address.  The best shots will be selected and featured on the website!

All this in the spirit of the following from LRH:

It is far from an unrealistic goal, short term, to get Book One into the hands of 1 percent of all the people in your area.  That’s a start.  A longer term goal is to capture 5 percent of the world book market.  We can do that too.  And if we did it, sheer momentum would clear the planet.

“Are you with me on this?

“Good!

“Do it!”  – LRH

New Tools for You to Get You Through the Basics

videoplay-19We just released the new Golden Age of Knowledge website for 2008!

As our purpose is to make it so every Scientologist can rapidly get through a study of the full Golden Age of Knowledge line-up, we built a number of new features into it I thought you would find useful:

Materials Guide Chart:
image This is the map which shows you where you are and where you are going in your journey to full understanding of Dianetics & Scientology.  We now have a large, nearly full-screen Materials Guide Chart on-line.  As each book and lecture is laid out in chronological sequence, you can see how the subjects of Dianetics and Scientology were evolved, just by studying this chart!  As you select the various books and lectures of your Basics line-up, the on-line chart zooms to that time period, showing you where that book or lecture is relative to the remainder of the full body of LRH materials.  This was done expressly to help you obtain and get through the materials faster!

Bulk Discounts and Tools for Disseminators:
image New to the website are the Beginning Books and Audiobooks, available as a package, or with new, special bulk discounts!  If you’re a disseminator, you can now save up to 39% on bulk pricing of the Beginning Books & Audiobooks package.

This, added to our new on-line FSM program for those that want to disseminate on the Internet, gives a whole new realm of tools for you to get all of your friends, family and selectees through their Basics, or introduced to Scientology & Dianetics through the Beginning Books!

Video Quote and Successes of the Week:

videoplay-18By far the most popular feature of the site so far has been the video content we’ve brought you, so this is being expanded now with more successes, and an LRH Video Quote of the week program on the way as well!

We have a new video this week, a video of over 50 people and their Basics successes, which I think you’ll like.  I want your feedback on what sort of video you’d like to see here, so please communicate back on this as well!

Do I Have to Have a Website to Disseminate?

This question has come up a few times as people are getting up and running with the Scientology affiliate system, and the answer these days is a resounding no!  You definitely don’t have to have your own website to be able to disseminate on-line!

Back in the days when Scientologists On-Line was introduced, there were not any of the current point-and-click tools that you have today to easily post and involve yourself in two-way communication on the Internet. Either you were a geek and were able to put up a website, or you weren’t and you didn’t.

Nowadays, here are some examples of things you can do and resources you can use:

Message Boards:

image Probably one of the most classic ways to drive traffic to a site is with active message board posts. If you have a number of people who are active on message boards, you can drive a REDICULOUS amount of traffic to a site. Whether or not they stick or do what you want is another question, but the traffic is undeniable.

If you’ve got your Basics already, there is a never-ending source of conversational material, all of which can link in to interesting pieces like Scientologists’ success videos as a punchline.

Social News Sites:

image These are sites like digg.com, reddit.com, etc which allow people to vote on ‘news’ that they think is best. These drive great sums of traffic — when your message is right.

Unfortunately, a great deal of the stories that people think are interesting are very ‘corn and games’ type news — where the newest photo of an exploding laptop or a washing machine catapult video ends up as the most popular thing on there.

Fine, it’s the bank agreement that’s being catered to, and that’s the planet we’re on. But it still drives traffic. Best ones I’ve found are:

All of them have had varying degrees of effectiveness. I’ve seen a handful of Propeller.com stories on Scientology make the first page, and those got some serious traffic. Digg.com and Reddit.com have been the best, though – routinely sending quite a few visitors for a well-written post.

Flickr / Photobucket:

image  One very easy way to get exposure for your addresses is to post all of your photos on a site like Flickr.com.  Then, take pictures of things that relate to Scientology and the application of Scientology tech, and add in your address.  I.e., go out and take pictures at your local org’s Book-a-thon, and post them up for everyone to check out!  If you take good pictures, this can generate a significant amount of traffic.

So, if you haven’t yet signed up as a Bridge or New Era affiliate, do it now, and then create your affiliate links so that you can start disseminating!

Questions of the Day – Link Exchanges

There were a few questions that came in today that would be best answered on the blog, for everyone.

Would it be ok to put my “affiliate” link on traffic exchanges? They are websites that advertise links for their members.

image  Absolutely.  There’s no problem at all with broadcasting your link to anyplace and every place you can get it.  Those that are most successful in the game of disseminating Scientology on-line advertise smartly, and put their links up everywhere.  In addition to link exchanges, you can look at doing paid links (if you’re in the mood to spend) or look at utilizing a number of new social networking services that have cropped up.

Without having to build your own website or pay money to advertise, there are literally thousands of places where you can insert links to your site that will drive traffic there.  Even posting photos on a service like Flickr.com can be an effective way to move people to your site.

I am not good at disseminating personally, so would the link that leads back to the Scientology site be doing the disseminating?

First off, nothing is going to replace the standard use of the policy letter DISSEMINATION DRILL, which goes over how to disseminate Scientology to others.  You definitely need to know how to do this drill.

However, your key reference by L. Ron Hubbard is the policy letter, BOOKS ARE DISSEMINATION which states,

“I will make you a wager.  I think you are wasting most of your time answering questions which are answered in books.  I think you are talking yourself hoarse to friends, and other people and groups, explaining over and over and over things that are already taken up in books.  I think your time is being devoured by attempts to reach through the natural conversational barriers of people.

“You are not giving, I am sure, the newly interested person an opportunity to go and sit down quietly with himself, without any social strain, and study a book on the subject.  Only in this way will he come to a decision about the subject which is his own independent decision, having inspected the materials.  This has to be done quietly and is best done through the pages of a book.”  — LRH

So, if via your links, blog posts, advertisements, and so forth you can get someone to go to the Basics website and order a book, it will be in the best interests of the newly-interested person, as well as to you.  Just post anywhere you can that the best way anyone can find out about Scientology and make a decision about it for themselves is by getting and reading some books on the subject.

Links to International Holiday Catalog Items

Quite often, you’ll need to send someone to get more information about an item — but that person speaks a different language from you!  The following are links to the Holiday Catalog as well as the Basics in various languages, which you can cut & paste into an e-mail.

NOTE:  make sure to replace out the “tadreeves.fsm.org” in the addresses below with your own FSM site.  And if you don’t already have an FSM site, create one here first!
